Awake and Thirsty

“Thirsty hearts are those whose longings have been wakened by the touch of God within them.”
           -A. W. Tozer

I want to stand in your council, God, to see and hear your words… (Jeremiah 23:18).

Sometimes I have a sudden moment of clarity, and, in that moment I recall the acts of God in my life — some really amazing stuff. Then I feel stunned by the way I carry on each day (effectively) without Him. What is wrong with me???? Why can't I keep the reality of Him present at the same time I'm busy with my day-to-day stuff? Anyway, in those moments, I feel desperately thirsty and prepared to throw over anything that stands between Him and me. And then the phone rings, or the dryer buzzes, or the kids call…and that moment is gone again.

I love this one, "Preach the gospel always, If necessary use words." ~ St. Francis of Assisi.

I am VERY thirsty for God… He has awakened my soul, and the more I get to know Him it seems, the more I want! I have been a Christian since I was a young girl and how I feel about God today is fresher than ever! Praise God, thanks for the good thoughts Jennifer!

    Hi Amy,

Isn't it great that we can ask God to give us a hunger for his word, and he will?

I love quotes and always have some nearby. I have perpetual calendars that feature quotes on my desk, in my bathroom, and on my kitchen counter 🙂 I like to use a different quote on my blog each week, and here is one I posted on Facebook this week:

"Never give up, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn." Harriet Beecher Stowe

    Blessings!

I enjoy reading Tozer. He has such a great way of saying things. THanks for sharing this quote.

Interestingly enough most of the things I tweet start as a comment on someone's blog and then become a quote. The lesson here is how inspiring other writers can be to your own creativity. 🙂

    Hi Jenn,

I am new to a lot of Tozer's complete works. Which would you recommend?

    Cheryl,

Harriet Beecher Stowe is someone we were just reading about because of her work in the Civil war era. What a neat quote.

    Shannon,

I agree. Reading others' good writing gets me thinking, pondering and writing more as well. What are some of your top five blogs to inspire you?
